RAINY DAYS OF OLD

Jubilant frogs their silence break

Hibernating mudfish slithering out

Mushrooms on wet grounds sprout

As thunders and lightnings boom and streak.

The mountain crabs the big flood carry

To mate and die in the estuary

(Later, their offspring swim upstream

to their habitat tributaries to grow

waiting for next year’s flood to go).

Farmers coming out of their boredom

Time to sow the seeds in the loam.

Time to mend the leaking roofs

To dig and unclog the waterways

While carefree children run outdoors

To bath in the heavy downpours.

Climate had changed by man’s neglect

But the rainy days of old

Would remain treasured as gold.
