PERPETUAL SMILE

He smiled a lot if not all the time

From ear to ear grinning

Beckoning poignant memories

Of the sunrise of my childhood

The morning of my adolescence

The afternoon of my adulthood

Life’s adversities could not obliterate

The rays of resilience, hope and faith

That perpetual smile could bring

Standing long at the picture staring

I smiled back at my father

Long dead and gone.
